Editor’s Note: Welcome to The Profession

After thirty years in education—as a teacher, team lead, and innovator—I’ve seen firsthand what happens when we fail to support the very people who hold up our schools: educators.

This Substack is no longer just a space for reflection. It’s now a platform for reinvention.

The Profession is a blueprint for the future of teaching—elevated, restructured, and reimagined. Each post will explore how we redesign this field from the inside out: through financial growth, professional mobility, educator voice, and—most radically—time. We’re not putting band-aids on burnout. We’re architecting a new foundation.

This is for educators, yes. But it’s also for the leaders, designers, and changemakers who know the system is unsustainable—and are ready to be part of the shift.

My experiences

I’ve been in education for 30 years—and I’ve loved every messy, beautiful minute of it. I started as a swim instructor (yes, poolside!) and quickly fell head over heels for teaching. But even then, I knew I wasn’t here to follow the rules—I was here to reimagine them.

In the beginning, I focused on transforming my own classroom. Over time, that spark turned into a calling. I’ve led teams, designed programs, trained teachers, and co-created bold new ways to teach and lead. I ask big questions: What if we did it differently? Why not build something better?

Here’s what I know: the teaching profession is ready for a redesign. Not surface-level tweaks, but deep, thoughtful, necessary change. And I believe it’s possible—because I’ve done the work, and I’ve seen what’s possible when people come together with a shared vision.

The Profession is where I bring all of that together—my passion, my experience, and my belief that this career can be powerful, prosperous, and worth fighting for. I’ll share stories, ideas, and possibilities for what’s next.
